Saved my bacon!

Plus 3 more

I removed a support bean from my veranda.
I was in the process of installing a steel brace beam to compensate for the vertical beam I had removed.
My intention was to drill evenly spaced holes through the steel brace and to use carriage bolts to secure the steel brace to the wooden laminated beam.
Using 6mm carriage bolts I drilled 5mm holes in the wooden beam & then encountered a real problem!!
After shearing off 3 carriage bolts I was in a fix! If I drilled the holes bigger the bolts would not grip via a bolt thread enough to create a sound structure!
What to do!!??
Ding!!
WD 40 !!!
I proceeded to spying some of my trusted WD 40 into the holes in the laminated beam, that I had drilled to 5mm & proceeded to ratchet in my carriage bolts one by one.
Completing all 12 with no further failures.
As a classic & vintage motorcycle enthusiast I do often use WD 40 on my maintenance & restoration projects. However, WD 40 is not restricted to metal use only !! As I learnt!
It’s an incredible product that I’m never without!!!
Thanks WD 40!!!
